Vault Terms
Terms of Service
1. Agreement to Terms
By creating a Vault account you confirm you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, you may not create an account or use the Platform.
Vault is operated by Vault Inc. ("we," "us," "our"). These Terms govern your access to joinvault.org and any related applications.
2. Who Can Use Vault
You must be at least 18 years old to use Vault. By creating an account you confirm you meet this requirement. If we discover a user is under 18 we will immediately terminate their account.
3. Your Account
- You are responsible for all activity under your account.
- You may not share your account or credentials with anyone.
- You must provide accurate, truthful information when signing up.
- You may only hold one Vault account at a time.
- You must notify us immediately at support@joinvault.org if you suspect unauthorized access.
- We reserve the right to suspend or permanently terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
4. The Vault Platform
Vault is a peer-to-peer fashion sharing platform. We provide the technology that connects lenders and borrowers within trusted communities. We do not own, inspect, possess, or control any items listed on the Platform.
All borrowing and lending arrangements are directly between users. Vault is not a party to any exchange, rental agreement, or transaction between members.
5. The Vault Community Standard
The Vault Borrower Pledge
By requesting to borrow or rent any item on Vault, you agree to:
Cleanliness
- Return all items freshly laundered or dry cleaned according to the care label instructions.
- Never return an item that smells of perfume, smoke, food, or body odor.
- Remove all personal belongings from pockets before returning.
- Never apply excessive perfume, hairspray, or dry shampoo while wearing borrowed items.
- Never wear borrowed items to events where they may be exposed to smoke, excessive sweat, or staining substances without disclosing this to the owner in advance.
Care and Handling
- Treat every borrowed item as if it were your most prized possession.
- Store items hanging or folded properly — never crumpled in a bag for extended periods.
- Do not alter, hem, tailor, pin, cut, bleach, or modify any borrowed item in any way.
- Do not iron or steam items without checking with the owner first.
- Handle delicate fabrics (silk, lace, cashmere, leather) with particular care.
- Never leave borrowed items in a hot car, wet environment, or anywhere they could be damaged.
Return
- Return items by the agreed return date without exception.
- If you cannot return on time, notify the owner at least 24 hours in advance.
- Return items in the same condition you received them — or better.
- Never lend, sublend, or transfer a borrowed item to another person.
- Return items using the agreed pickup and return method only.
Damage
- If an item is damaged — even accidentally — disclose this to the owner immediately.
- Do not attempt to repair, hide, or conceal any damage.
- You accept financial responsibility for any damage that occurs during your borrowing period.
- Vault strongly recommends photographing items at pickup and return as documentation.
Hygiene
- Do not borrow items if you are experiencing a contagious illness.
- Do not borrow items if you have skin conditions that could transfer to fabric.
- Vault recommends wearing appropriate undergarments with all borrowed clothing.
Lender Responsibilities
As a lender you agree to:
- Only list items you personally own and have the right to lend.
- Accurately describe the condition of every item.
- Disclose any existing damage, stains, repairs, or alterations in the item description.
- Provide accurate size information.
- Ensure items are clean, freshly laundered or dry cleaned before lending.
- Honor approved borrow requests — repeated cancellations may result in account suspension.
- Communicate clearly and promptly with borrowers.
- Never list counterfeit, replica, or inauthentic items — this results in immediate permanent ban.
- Never list items that belong to someone else without their explicit written permission.
Prohibited Items
The following items may never be listed on Vault:
- Underwear and intimate apparel of any kind
- Swimwear (bottoms)
- Socks and hosiery (unless brand new and sealed)
- Items with visible mold, mildew, or pest damage
- Counterfeit, replica, or inauthentic items of any brand
- Items subject to a recall or safety notice
- Items you do not personally own
Vault reserves the right to remove any listing that violates these prohibitions without notice.
6. Condition Standards
All items must be listed with an accurate condition grade:
- New — Never worn, original tags attached
- Like New — Worn once or twice, no visible wear
- Good — Gently used, minor wear consistent with age
- Fair — Visible signs of wear — must be fully disclosed in description
Misrepresenting an item's condition is a violation of these Terms and grounds for account suspension.
7. Damage Policy
Vault defines damage as any change to an item's condition beyond normal wear that was not disclosed at listing, including:
- Stains of any kind
- Tears, holes, snags, or pulls
- Missing buttons, zippers, or closures
- Broken hardware or embellishments
- Shrinkage due to improper washing
- Stretching or distortion of fabric
- Odors that cannot be removed by standard laundering
If an item is returned damaged:
- The lender documents damage with photos within 48 hours of return.
- Lender notifies Vault at contact@joinvault.org with photo evidence.
- Vault reviews the claim.
- Borrower is notified and given opportunity to respond.
- Resolution is determined by Vault at our sole discretion.
Borrowers are financially responsible for damage during their borrowing period, up to the item's listed retail value. Vault is not an insurer and acts as mediator only.
8. Late Returns
- Items not returned within 48 hours of the agreed return date may be reported to Vault.
- Repeated late returns will result in account restrictions.
- Vault reserves the right to suspend borrowing privileges for users with a pattern of late returns.
- Lenders may leave honest reviews reflecting late return behavior.
9. Community Standards and Conduct
All Vault users agree to:
- Treat every member with dignity and respect.
- Communicate honestly and promptly about requests, pickups, and returns.
- Never harass, threaten, intimidate, or discriminate against any user.
- Never share another user's personal information without their consent.
- Report suspected fraud, abuse, or policy violations to contact@joinvault.org.
- Maintain an honest, accurate public profile.
Vault has a zero tolerance policy for:
- Racism, sexism, homophobia, or any form of discrimination
- Sexual harassment of any kind
- Threats of violence
- Doxxing or sharing private information about other users
Violations result in immediate permanent account termination.
10. Reviews and Reputation
After each completed exchange, both parties may leave a review. Reviews must be:
- Honest and based on your actual experience
- Free of personal attacks or discriminatory language
- Not submitted in exchange for any incentive
You may not threaten negative reviews to coerce other users — this is grounds for immediate suspension.
11. Reporting and Enforcement
- Report listings: use the flag icon on any item.
- Report users: contact@joinvault.org.
- Report urgent safety issues: contact@joinvault.org.
Vault reserves the right to remove any listing, suspend, or permanently ban any account at any time.
